CLIPPERS-SYNDROME – A NEUROLOGICAL ORPHAN DISORDER
https://doi.org/10.52485/19986173_2026_2_208
Abstract
CLIPPERS syndrome is a rare chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, predominantly affecting the brainstem and cerebellum. Its pathognomonic radiological sign is multiple punctate and linear contrast-enhancing foci in the pons (the "salt-and-pepper" sign), detected on contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging. Diagnosis is challenging due to the condition's rarity and low awareness among physicians. A key feature of the syndrome is its pronounced positive response to corticosteroid therapy. Presented clinical case ample emphasizes the importance of timely recognition of this treatable pathology for initiating effective treatment.
